Course Requirements
This programme is designed for students who have completed a Higher National Diploma, Foundation Degree or equivalent level 5 qualification in a subject closely related to the pathway applied for.

If you have completed a Pearson BTEC HND in Engineering at Nelson and Colne College you will have all the required prior knowledge. You will also have all the required prior knowledge if you have completed the UCLan HND in a related stream.

If you are offering entry qualifications other than a Pearson BTEC HND in Engineering studied at Nelson and Colne College or UCLan HND in a related stream you may apply and will be considered on the basis of both the extent and level of your prior achievement and on the subject knowledge gained. The consent of the University Programme Leader is required for all admissions other than from the College’s own HND programmes or from UCLan HNDs.

Normally, you will need an overall Merit at HND or a Foundation Degree average mark of 50% or higher. If you have an HND with an overall Pass grade or a Foundation Degree with and average mark below 50% but can show the ability and commitment necessary to be successful at level 6 you may be admitted at the discretion of the relevant admissions tutor.

Open Course Overview

This programme is offered in partnership with the University of Cumbria and is aimed at those who want to improve their Foundation Degree or HND in and move into a role in Engineering with more responsibility and better prospects along with potentially a higher earning potential.

Students will attend one day and evening per week for the full-time route and will undertake a placement of 120 hours per academic year alongside their academic studies where they are not already in relevant employment.

Part time students will take a selection or modules from the full time programme.

• Engineering Systems Design and Simulation
• Engineering Innovation. Creativity, Entrepreneurship and Problem Solving

In addition to the common modules, the BEng (Hons) Manufacturing Engineering will normally include one of the following:

• Advanced Materials Science
• Manufacturing Operations Management

In addition to the common modules, the BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering will normally include one of the following:

• Microprocessor Applications
• Electrical Power

Open Assessment methods

The major project, which makes up a third of the total credits, is assessed 100% by coursework. Most of the remaining modules are assessed 50% by coursework and 50% by examination. The overall assessment split depends on the option modules selected but is approximately 75% coursework and 25% examination.

Open The Application Process

The online application process is really simple, once you have clicked the “apply now” you will be redirect to our application portal where you either log in or create an account (if you haven’t applied with us previously). We will then ask you to give us a couple of bits of information like address, mobile phone number ect and that’s it.
Once your application has been made the next step will be for you to book yourself onto one of our interview evenings, depending on availability you might be able to do this straight away but otherwise we will get in contact to arrange when you come in for an interview.
At any point you can log back into the portal throughout the year, update information like your predicted GCSE grades, update contact and consent information and keep a live track of your application.
