This programme has been designed for those people already working in the legal and related sectors who wish to upskill and enhance their knowledge in order to progress in their careers.It will also appeal to employees and people in non legal roles looking to pursue a career in a paralegal role without necessarily wishing to qualify as a solicitor or barrister. It will provide such people with the underpinning legal knowledge and skills, combined with work based learning opportunities to develop the competence and professionalism to work in a variety of different legal contexts.

A range of assessments are used within the programme, including portfolios, case studies, reflections and presentations. There is one examination in Level 5, which makes up 17% of the assessment of this level.
Having successfully completed and been awarded the FdA Paralegal Services, students can progress to a Top-Up Honours Degree in the subject area at the University of Cumbria. Students may instead choose to seek employment at the end of their Foundation Degree and will take with them a portable, vocationally relevant, Higher Education qualification.
