Overview of Course

During this free course, you will have the opportunity to explore a range of speaking and listening activities that Early Year’s children are taught, these activities are aimed to develop your awareness as a family about communication skill, including: speaking, listening, interacting and understanding skills at home.
The course uses animal themed games/ activities, (including singing/ rhyme/ craft/ repetition), to encourage and develop speaking and listening skills. You will increase your skills and confidence to support your child’s speech and language development at home.
There will also be lots of ideas for further activities you can do as a family, plus links to various useful websites. This course will enable you to be creative as a family whilst developing your confidence through communicating effectively with others and developing positive interaction skills as a family unit. You will be asked to complete an Initial Assessment at the start of the course, then you will just work through each section in order.

What you will learn

Through a gentle introduction to how children’s speech and language is developed in school, you will gain skills and knowledge to enable you to support your child's learning and development.

At the end of the course you will be able to:
• Identify current approaches to the teaching of Speaking, Listening Interacting & Understanding in school
• Recognise why communication is important to a child’s development.
• List 2 examples of how you can help your child develop their Speaking, Listening, Interacting and Understanding skills
• List 2 ways in which you have developed your confidence on this course
• Identify further learning opportunities and aspirations

The course is designed to be accessed by Parents with children in EYFS and Key Stage 1 (if required).

How Your Course Will Be Assessed

This is a practical and hands on course where you will be involved in various activities which will enable you to develop new skills.

• This course will be delivered via our online learning site, ‘Moodle’. You will study from the comfort of your own home, at a day and time that suits you.
• Once you have enrolled you will be sent information on how to get started on Moodle.
• Throughout the course there will be an opportunity to speak to one of our teachers and there will be also be ‘live’ chats available to those who wish to participate.
• Your teacher will be on hand throughout the course to offer you support, feedback and guidance.
• For this course, you will ideally have an email address and access to the internet via either a Smart phone, tablet or computer. You will need to be able to understand how to follow URL links to pages on the internet.
• No skills or experience needed.

How will I know if I'm making progress?

During the course, you will have the opportunity to discuss your progress with the teacher and feedback will be provided. You will also be encouraged to provide course feedback to your teacher and take part in end of course evaluation.

What coursework will I be expected to complete?

All work will be completed in the session, but it is hoped that you will apply what you have learnt in the sessions at home and support your child.

How long is the Course?
This course is designed to take approximately 2 hours per session and there is 5/6 sessions but you can take your time with each of the activities. There are activities just for you, the Learner, to complete at the beginning and end of the course, and activities to complete with your child

The online application and enrolment process is really simple, once you have clicked the “APPLY" or "ENROL” button you will be redirected to the portal where you either log in or create an account (if you haven’t done so previously). We will then ask you to give us a couple of bits of information like address, mobile phone number ect and that’s it.

Once your applications has been made the next step will be for you to book yourself onto one of our interview evenings, depending on availability you might be able to do this straight away but otherwise we will get in contact to arrange when you come in for an interview.

At any point you can log back into the portal throughout the year, update information like your predicted GCSE grades, update contact and consent information and keep a live track of your application.
