Please note that the College is only able to offer this course at the rates publicised on this website to those individuals aged 19+ or over on 31st August 2022 whose home address is in areas of England outside of the devolved authority areas of: Cambridge and Peterborough, Greater Manchester, Greater London, Liverpool City Region, Tees Valley, West Midlands and West of England. Where an individual resides outside of England or in one of the devolved areas then the College reserves the right to charge you for the delivery of the course at a rate of £10.55 per hour. Course Overview
Open What will I learn?

Through a gentle introduction to STEM, you will gain skills and knowledge to enable you to prepare and carry out STEM activities at home and support your child's learning.
At the end of the course you will be able to:
• Support your child to apply the engineering process in a problem solving situation.
• Complete a short Lego Challenge within a set time frame.
• Recognise how hands-on learning can be used to engage children with STEAM subjects
• Follow written instructions to construct a Lego design

What Will I Learn
Open Entry requirements

• In order to attend this course you should be able to follow verbal and written instructions in English at Entry Level 3 and above.
• You will also require an internet connection and a laptop/tablet/smart phone in order to access the online resources.
• Ideally participating children will be aged between 4 and 11 years.
• It is important to note that this course is practical and requires a degree of manual dexterity for you to participate fully and get the most out of the course.

• Your course will be delivered by a subject specialist in a live online classroom using Zoom or Teams.
• You will need to be able to access the internet on a device with speakers or earphones.
• Once you have enrolled onto the course you will be sent further information from your course tutor on how to get started.
• Your tutor will be on hand throughout the course to offer you support, feedback and guidance

Open How will I know if I'm making progress?

During the course you will have the opportunity to discuss your progress with the teacher and feedback will be provided. You will also be encouraged to provide course feedback to your teacher and take part in end of course evaluation.

All work will be completed in the session, but it is hoped that you will apply what you have learnt in the sessions at home and carry out activities at home as a family.

How long is the course?
Approximately 1 session of 2 hrs via a live online classroom

• To take part in the session you will need to have a selection of LEGO pieces suitable to take part in various build challenges.

The online application and enrolment process is really simple, once you have clicked the “APPLY" or "ENROL” button you will be redirected to the portal where you either log in or create an account (if you haven’t done so previously). We will then ask you to give us a couple of bits of information like address, mobile phone number ect and that’s it.
Once your applications has been made the next step will be for you to book yourself onto one of our interview evenings, depending on availability you might be able to do this straight away but otherwise we will get in contact to arrange when you come in for an interview.
At any point you can log back into the portal throughout the year, update information like your predicted GCSE grades, update contact and consent information and keep a live track of your application.
