Please note that the College is only able to offer this course at the rates publicised on this website to those individuals aged 19+ or over on 31st August 2023 whose home address is in areas of England outside of the devolved authority areas of: Cambridge and Peterborough, Greater Manchester, Greater London, Liverpool City Region, Tees Valley, West Midlands and West of England. Where an individual resides outside of England or in one of the devolved areas then the College reserves the right to charge you for the delivery of the course at a rate of £10.80 per hour. The Access to Higher Education (HE) Diploma is a Level 3 qualification that prepares 19+ students who are returning to education or who left school without the qualifications needed to progress to university.

The Access to HE Diploma (Computing) is ideal for those who want to progress on to a degree or other higher education programme in a wide range of computing related subjects.

Database Software, Event Driven Programming, Networking, Cyber Security and Academic Development and Study Skills

Besides subject knowledge, academic research and writing skills are crucial in helping you with your assignments on the Access to HE Diploma as well as preparing you for your future studies at higher levels. This subject will help you to identify your own skills and those required to progress to a degree and/ or future employment. We will support you with your UCAS application and prepare you for interviews.

You should have GCSE/ Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths and English in place before beginning the course. On occasion, we may consider applicants without Maths or English as long as they are willing to work towards them alongside the Access to HE Diploma.

Please note, some universities require specific GCSE/ Level 2 Functional Skills qualifications and grades. It is a good idea to check with your chosen universities before beginning the Access to HE Diploma.

You are expected to attend all timetabled classes (2.5 days per week) and in addition you required to do some independent study. Sessions are taking place in regular classrooms, and computer rooms. There will be some ‘live’ on-line teaching and learning depending on the subjects.

In the weekly tutorial session, you will be tracking your progress, reflecting on feedback received and plan how to keep improving your academic skills.
You will receive feedback from your subject tutors on all coursework and have 1:1 tutorials with both your subject tutors and with your personal tutor.

Course work includes essays, case studies, a practical investigation with a written report and one exam at the end of the course. We have strict deadlines for assessed work and expect you to keep up with any homework given.

We encourage all our students to volunteer or work in a field that relates to your future career. This is an intense course and you need to be 100% committed to your studies.
There are no tuition fees for anybody under the age of 24 with no full level 3 qualification. If you are 19+ with a full level 3 qualification, or you are 24+ you can take out an Advanced Learner Loan to pay for the tuition fees. “Student Finance England will ‘write off’ any outstanding Advanced Learner Loan balances you owe for an Access to HE course once you complete a higher education course. The online application and enrolment process is really simple, once you have clicked the “APPLY" or "ENROL” button you will be redirected to the portal where you either log in or create an account (if you haven’t done so previously). We will then ask you to give us a couple of bits of information like address, mobile phone number ect and that’s it.
Once your applications has been made the next step will be for you to book yourself onto one of our interview evenings, depending on availability you might be able to do this straight away but otherwise we will get in contact to arrange when you come in for an interview.
At any point you can log back into the portal throughout the year, update information like your predicted GCSE grades, update contact and consent information and keep a live track of your application.
