Course Information
The Level 2 Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship is the ideal starting point for those who want to make a real difference in people’s lives. As a member of the front-line care team, you will support adults with a variety of needs to live independently, safely, and with dignity, ensuring they have control and choice in their lives.

This apprenticeship prepares you to provide high-quality, compassionate care for individuals facing physical, practical, social, emotional, or intellectual challenges. You will learn how to build trust, promote wellbeing, and respond to the needs of service users in a respectful and professional way.

The programme also supports the development of the values and behaviours essential to care, such as empathy, patience, and resilience. By completion, you will be equipped with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to play a vital role in helping people achieve their personal goals and lead fulfilling lives.
Care Values and Behaviours – promoting dignity, independence, and respect.

Safeguarding and Protection – keeping adults safe from harm and abuse.

Health and Wellbeing – supporting physical, emotional, and social needs.

Communication Skills – building trust and understanding with service users and colleagues.

Person-Centred Care – tailoring support to meet individual needs and goals.

Equality and Inclusion – working fairly and without discrimination.

Professional Practice – teamwork, reliability, and reflective learning.

Practical Skills – assisting with daily living tasks and promoting independence.
The apprenticeship is delivered through a blend of on-the-job training in a care setting and off-the-job learning at college. In your workplace, you will gain first-hand experience supporting adults with diverse needs, guided by experienced colleagues. At college, you will take part in workshops, group discussions, and tutorials focused on health, wellbeing, safeguarding, and professional practice.

Learning is practical and reflective, with opportunities to apply knowledge directly to real care situations. Regular workplace visits, mentoring, and progress reviews from Trainer Assessors ensure you receive the support you need to develop the skills, knowledge, and behaviours required for this vital role.
A Level 2 qualification is equivalent to GCSE Grades 4-9 and you will be expected to have achieved at least 4 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above to enrol on to one of these programmes. Successful completion of this course will pave the way for you to further your studies at Level 3. Minimum GCSE grade 2 for English and maths. If you don’t achieve these, you will need to complete an initial assessment in English and maths to identify your eligibility for the course.

These requirements may alter dependent on the needs of the employer.
Workplace observations to assess practical care skills

Written assignments and knowledge tests to demonstrate understanding

Portfolio completion to evidence your achievements and development

Regular progress reviews with your employer and Trainer Assessor

End Point Assessment (EPA) – independently assessed, including a knowledge test, professional discussion, and observation of practice
