Overview of Course

This 2-day, course is for parents, guardians, grandparents and anyone who has professional involvement working with or looking after children and babies, which also includes mandatory completion for new entrants to early years settings. It will enable you to have the basic knowledge and skills in how to act safely, promptly and effective in a variety of paediatric emergencies. Learners will complete practical assessments and a final multiple-choice theory paper to demonstrate competency, knowledge and skills in emergency paediatric first aid.
This two-day course (12 hours in class) is completed in a classroom setting, you will be involved in practical activities which will need some physical involvement

As well as understand the role and responsibilities of the paediatric first aider, by the end of the course you will be able to provide first aid to an infant and a child:
• Who are unresponsive
• Who are choking
• With external bleeding
• With suspected injuries to bones, muscles and joints
• With suspected head and spinal injuries
• With anaphylaxis

And know how to provide first aid to an infant or child:
• Who is suffering from shock or electric shock
• With bites, stings and minor injuries
• With conditions affecting the eyes, ears and nose
• With an acute medical condition or sudden illness
• Who is experiencing extremes of body temperature
• With burns and scalds
• With suspected poisoning

In order to attend this course, you should be able to follow verbal and written instructions in English at Level 1 or above, and be physically active to be able to complete practical activity and assessments.

How Your Course Will Be Assessed

You will learn in a variety of ways:
• Active listening and discussion
• Paired and group tasks
• Participation in practical exercises
• Personal reflection and action planning
• Access to Apps, websites and Moodle (Virtual Learning Environment) will be provided so you can complete some tasks during the session on-line, and access the resources after the session has ended to extend your learning.
• Research and peer teaching.

• Your teacher will use a range of activities to review your knowledge on the subject and identify any gaps and additional information required
• You will also receive verbal and written feedback from the teacher during the session
• The Individual Learning Plan includes an opportunity for you to assess your knowledge at the start of the session and again at the end against the content. This allows you to identify how much you have learnt and where you might need to do further study or research.
• You will also be supported to set individual targets for the course based on your starting points, personal goals and aspirations.

The online application and enrolment process is really simple, once you have clicked the “APPLY" or "ENROL” button you will be redirected to the portal where you either log in or create an account (if you haven’t done so previously). We will then ask you to give us a couple of bits of information like address, mobile phone number ect and that’s it.
Once your applications has been made the next step will be for you to book yourself onto one of our interview evenings, depending on availability you might be able to do this straight away but otherwise we will get in contact to arrange when you come in for an interview.
At any point you can log back into the portal throughout the year, update information like your predicted GCSE grades, update contact and consent information and keep a live track of your application.
