In order to attend the course, learners should be able to follow verbal and written instructions in English at Entry 3 and above. Learners would also benefit for a basic level of IT skills to be able to access resources and research activities, although this is not essential. An initial assessment will identify you starting points to help the tutor in providing personalised support throughout.

Overview of Course

The primary purpose of the programme is to recognise the development of knowledge and skills regarding exploring opportunities in health and social care. The course has been designed to enable learners to explore this vocational area and gain skills and confidence in health and social care, which may progress towards further education, voluntary or paid employment.

What you will learn

To achieve the Award in Health & Social Care, learners will need to complete the following units:

Awareness of the Role and Responsibilities in the Adult Social Care Worker

Awareness of the Skills and Attitudes Needed to Work in Adult Social Care

Working with Others in a Health and Social Care Setting

How Your Course Will Be Assessed

Learners attend weekly sessions and engage in learning activities to support the learning outcomes. Progressing each week, learning will be structured towards completing both individual and group activities to increase knowledge and understanding which will be assessed using a range of methods.

Further support and learning can be accessed through the Moodle page, which will support the length of the course with activities, resources and further reading links.

How will I know if I'm making progress?

Regular submission of work that will be assessed and reviewed weekly.

Learners will receive feedback in order to further develop their knowledge

Learners will assess their knowledge at the start of the course and again at the end against the learning outcomes. This allows them to identify how much they have learnt and where they might need to do further study or research.

Learners will also be supported to set an individual target(s) for the course based on starting points, personal goals and career aspirations.

What coursework will I be expected to complete?

A workbook will be supplied at the start of the course which will be used by the learner to record their knowledge through activities and open questions, which will be submitted at regular points throughout the course.

The online application and enrolment process is really simple, once you have clicked the “APPLY" or "ENROL” button you will be redirected to the portal where you either log in or create an account (if you haven’t done so previously). We will then ask you to give us a couple of bits of information like address, mobile phone number ect and that’s it.

Once your applications has been made the next step will be for you to book yourself onto one of our interview evenings, depending on availability you might be able to do this straight away but otherwise we will get in contact to arrange when you come in for an interview.

At any point you can log back into the portal throughout the year, update information like your predicted GCSE grades, update contact and consent information and keep a live track of your application.
