Where an individual resides outside of England or in one of the devolved areas then the College reserves the right to charge you for the delivery of the course at a rate of £11.75 per hour. The Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning is for students aged 19+ who would like to become a Teaching Assistant in a school or college (ages 5-19) and have already gained a Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning or other relevant qualification.
The Supporting Teaching and Learning pathway is ideal for those who wish to progress onto further qualifications or become a Teaching Assistant.

There are 16 modules to be completed during the year.
The modules cover the wide range of skills and knowledge necessary to be a Level 3 Teaching Assistant. The modules cover a number of areas, including Safeguarding children and young people, understanding how children and young people develop, developing professional relationships, understanding the health and safety requirements in schools and colleges, supporting positive behaviour in the classroom and supporting Maths, English and ICT. You will also cover ways in which you can support children and young people’s speech, language and communication, how to support bilingual students and those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

You should have GCSE/ Level 2 Functional Skills in English in place before beginning the course. A GCSE or Level 2 Functional Skills in maths is also required. On occasion, we may consider applicants without maths, as long as they are willing to work towards them alongside the Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning.

You should also have a Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent).

You will also need to show that you have experience of supporting children and young people in a school or college setting.

Please note, many employers require GCSE English and Maths for roles as a Teaching Assistant.

Over the year, you will submit work which will build to create a portfolio of evidence. This includes written tasks and assignments, Professional Discussions, lesson observations and presentations to the group.

You will be expected to submit work on a regular basis. The work is marked and returned to you so that you can see your progress during the year. You will also have 2 observations whilst on placement and targets will be set for you to meet.

On successful completion of the Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning, you can consider progressing to the FdA in Teaching and Learning Support.

The online application and enrolment process is really simple, once you have clicked the “APPLY" or "ENROL” button you will be redirected to the portal where you either log in or create an account (if you haven’t done so previously). We will then ask you to give us a couple of bits of information like address, mobile phone number ect and that’s it.
Once your applications has been made the next step will be for you to book yourself onto one of our interview evenings, depending on availability you might be able to do this straight away but otherwise we will get in contact to arrange when you come in for an interview.
At any point you can log back into the portal throughout the year, update information like your predicted GCSE grades, update contact and consent information and keep a live track of your application.
