The Level 2 Hair Professional Apprenticeship is the perfect starting point for anyone looking to build a career in the fast-paced and creative world of hairdressing. Demand for skilled hairdressers continues to grow, and this programme provides the essential skills, knowledge, and behaviours to succeed in the industry.

As an apprentice, you will begin your career as a salon junior, assisting senior stylists while developing your own abilities as a junior stylist. Typical duties during your on-the-job training will include booking appointments, shampooing and conditioning, drying and styling hair, and mixing and applying colour. You will also develop your cutting, colouring, and finishing techniques, learning to follow the latest trends — and even create new fashion looks of your own.

Hairdressing is a customer-focused career, so you will also build excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ensuring every client feels valued and leaves the salon with confidence.
• Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp.
• Cut hair using a range of techniques to create a variety of looks.
• Style and finish hair using a range of techniques to create a variety of looks.
• Colour and lighten hair using a range of techniques.
• Perming hair.
• Hair relaxing treatments and techniques.
• Hair extension services.
The apprenticeship is delivered through a blend of on-the-job training in a professional salon and off-the-job learning at college. In your workplace, you will gain hands-on experience supporting senior stylists, learning to cut, colour, and style hair while building your customer service skills. At college, you will benefit from training in our state-of-the-art salon, equipped with modern tools and technology that replicate real industry standards.

Learning is practical and interactive, with workshops, demonstrations, and guided practice, supported by experienced Trainer Assessors. Regular mentoring and progress reviews ensure you develop the technical ability, creativity, and professionalism required to succeed.
You should be aiming for at least 3 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above including English Language and/or mathematics.

These requirements may alter dependent upon the needs of the employer. If you don’t quite achieve the entry criteria though don’t worry, we can discuss your options.

If you have not achieved a Grade 4 in English Language and/or mathematics you will be required to achieve a Level 1 or Level 2 Functional Skills in English and/or Maths as part of your Apprenticeship.
