This Level 2 Bricklayer Apprenticeship is designed to develop the practical skills, knowledge, and behaviours required to become a professional bricklayer in the construction industry. Learners will gain hands-on experience with an employer, supported by structured off-the-job training delivered by the training provider.
Bricklayers work on new builds, restoration projects, and commercial developments, building and repairing walls, foundations, partitions, and other structures.
Construction of cavity and solid walls
Interpreting drawings and site specifications
Use and maintenance of hand tools, power tools, and equipment
Setting out and preparing foundations
Health, safety, and welfare in the workplace
Construction technology and sustainability practices
Teamwork, communication, and customer interaction
The Level 2 Bricklayer Apprenticeship is delivered through a mix of college-based training and workplace learning. At college, apprentices receive expert tuition using industry-standard equipment, focusing on health and safety, construction principles, and building regulations. In the workplace, they apply this knowledge on real projects, developing skills such as preparing materials, mixing mortar, and constructing walls with accuracy and care.
The programme lasts 24–30 months, with apprentices supported throughout by the college’s Apprenticeship Team. Professional behaviours such as reliability, punctuality, and teamwork are embedded, ensuring apprentices are fully prepared for industry.
Aged 16 or over and eligible to work in the UK
Ideally, GCSE Grade 3 (D) or above in English and Maths
Applicants without these qualifications will work towards Level 1 Functional Skills in English and Maths as part of the apprenticeship, and work towards a Level 2 Functional Skills in English and Maths.
A keen interest in construction, good attention to detail, and a willingness to learn
A minimum of 6 weeks' relevant work experience is preferred
• On-site observations and regular progress reviews
• Completion of a work-based portfolio demonstrating knowledge and competence
• Knowledge assessments (written or online)

End Point Assessment (EPA), including:
• Practical skills test
• Professional discussion, supported by your portfolio
• Expert Trainer Assessors with vast industry experience providing continuous support throughout the programme.
• Strong employer links with opportunities within companies such as Persimmon Homes and J Reilly Civil Engineering.
• Employers have worked to co-create the programme making it highly industry relevant.
• On completion of this Apprenticeship, the apprentice will have satisfied the requirements to obtain a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Card at the appropriate level.
On completion of the Level 2 Bricklayer Apprenticeship, you will be fully equipped for employment as a Bricklayer, working on residential, commercial, and restoration projects. Many apprentices progress into roles such as Site Labourer or Construction Operative, building valuable on-site experience. With further study at Level 3, you can advance to positions such as Advanced Craft Bricklayer, Site Supervisor, or Construction Technician.

Long-term career pathways include progressing into higher-level qualifications in construction management, leading to aspirational roles such as Site Manager, Construction Project Manager, or even Chartered Surveyor, offering significant responsibility and progression within the industry.
