Please note that the College is only able to offer this course at the rates publicised on this website to those individuals aged 19+ or over on 31st August 2024 whose home address is in areas of England outside of the devolved authority areas of: Cambridge and Peterborough, Greater Manchester, Greater London, Liverpool City Region, Tees Valley, West Midlands and West of England. Where an individual resides outside of England or in one of the devolved areas then the College reserves the right to charge you for the delivery of the course at a rate of £11.25 per hour. This is in line with the College’s Fees Policy which is published on our websites.

This programme is ideal for anyone who wants to make a difference to the lives of children, young people and families. The programme will develop the knowledge and skills you need for a career across a range of professional areas, or for entry into further postgraduate study. This programme has a number of distinguishing features including: an emphasis on interdisciplinary working; employability; internationalisation; research skills and social justice.
A programme in Working with Children and Families offers learners the opportunity to achieve a qualification that offers both career progression and professional development for those already in employment in the Working with Children and Families sectors and those learners that are looking for future employment and careers in the sectors.
This work-related programme of study is designed to cover the key knowledge, understanding and practical skills required in the health and social care sectors. The programme facilitates opportunities for learners to apply their knowledge and practical skills in the workplace; full-time learners have the opportunity to do this through formal voluntary work placements or part-time employment experience.

Minimum 48 UCAS Tariff points, with the majority obtained from relevant subjects.

GCSE English or Functional Skills.

Applicants without formal entry qualifications but with relevant work experience will be considered for entry to the programme subject to an interview and appropriate diagnostic tests.

Disclosure and Barring Scheme: Candidates who do not already have a current DBS through their employment will need to apply for one. A DBS check and disclosure of convictions are course requirements, but having a clean DBS is not a condition of entry. Where a DBS disclosure raises issues, these will be discussed with the candidate and consideration given to their impact on the availability of placements and future employability.

The children’s workforce and social care services include; early years, education, social care, health and wellbeing, sport and culture, youth work, community work, crime and justice. Within each of these sectors there are employers who provide statutory services, voluntary and charitable services and private services. This provides you with a wide range of employment options. Our recent graduates have gone on to work in a wide variety of these organisations as front line staff and project managers.
As a result of studying this programme you may also want to progress onto the Top Up in Working with Children and Families.

The online application and enrolment process is really simple, once you have clicked the “APPLY" or "ENROL” button you will be redirected to the portal where you either log in or create an account (if you haven’t done so previously). We will then ask you to give us a couple of bits of information like address, mobile phone number ect and that’s it.
Once your applications has been made the next step will be for you to book yourself onto one of our interview evenings, depending on availability you might be able to do this straight away but otherwise we will get in contact to arrange when you come in for an interview.
At any point you can log back into the portal throughout the year, update information like your predicted GCSE grades, update contact and consent information and keep a live track of your application.
