Course Information
If you dream of inspiring and supporting young learners, our T Level in Education and Early Years – Assisting Teaching could be your ideal next step.

You’ll explore child development, learning theories, and safeguarding, while gaining the practical skills needed to support pupils and teachers in the classroom.

As part of the course, you’ll complete around 315 hours on placement with a reputable employer, giving you invaluable hands-on experience and the confidence to step into the workplace.

Turn your passion for education into a career, and start making a difference in the lives of the next generation.
Want to play a key role in the classroom, supporting teachers and helping students succeed? The T Level in Education and Early Years (Assisting Teaching) gives you the skills, knowledge, and experience to do just that. You’ll combine classroom learning with real-life school experience, preparing you for a rewarding future in education.

The Assisting Teaching specialism is at the heart of this T Level. You’ll develop practical skills for working alongside teachers—helping plan and deliver lessons, supporting activities, and creating a positive learning environment. You’ll also learn how to observe and assess pupils, adapt to their individual needs, and encourage them to make progress. It’s hands-on, practical training that gives you the confidence to step into a real classroom.

Alongside your specialism, you’ll cover the core modules that give you a solid understanding of education. These include child development, safeguarding and wellbeing, managing behaviour, and equality and diversity. You’ll also explore special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), working with families, and supporting children who are learning English as an additional language.

A big part of the course is the industry placement—at least 315 hours in a real educational setting. This gives you valuable experience, a chance to put theory into practice, and the confidence to work with children and young people of different ages.

With assessments through exams, projects, and practical tasks, you’ll finish this T Level ready to move into higher apprenticeships, university, or straight into roles like teaching assistant, learning mentor, or SEND support.

If you’re passionate about helping students thrive, this is the perfect place to start your career in education.
Delivered through lessons, workshops, and a 315-hour placement, this course explores child development, behaviour management, and safeguarding. On placement, you’ll work with teachers to support pupils’ learning and gain confidence in the classroom.
5 GCSE passes at a minimum of Grade 4, which must include English Language and Maths at Grade 4.
Your learning will be assessed through two key components. Firstly, the Core component, which includes an examination and an employer-set project (ESP). Together, these will determine your overall Core grade. Secondly, the Occupational Specialism component, where you'll complete synoptic assignments designed to demonstrate your skills and understanding, earning a distinction, merit, or pass. Additionally, you'll complete an industry placement to develop practical workplace skills.
This course opens doors to exciting careers in education, especially in assisting teaching roles. After completing your T Level, you’ll be well prepared to work as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Mentor, or other classroom support positions in primary or secondary schools. You’ll also have a great foundation for further study at university, including progressing toward Primary School Teaching qualifications if that’s your goal.
