Course Information
If you're fascinated by how things are made and how machines work, our T Level in Mechanical Engineering is for you. You'll develop a deep understanding of design processes, from initial concept to finished product, in our state-of-the-art facilities. Through your placement, you'll get hands-on experience and see how your skills apply in the real world of engineering. Get ready to unlock a world of career opportunities in one of the most exciting and rewarding industries out there.
You’ll investigate engineering principles, design techniques, and manufacturing materials and processes, understanding how products go from concept to production. Careers in Engineering and Manufacturing sectors will be explored along with the working environment where you will gain an understanding of how materials, conditions and context influence design processes and products. You will study essential Maths for Engineering and also learn about business, commercial and financial awareness too. With hands-on projects and industry placements, you’ll be prepared for a future in engineering, whether that’s a job, an apprenticeship, or further study.
This T Level is your gateway to the world of engineering and product development. Designed with leading employers, this course blends classroom learning with real-world experience, giving you the skills to design, test, and create innovative products.
The course is delivered through a mix of classroom learning and practical training. Learning is hands-on, with workshops, projects, and problem-solving tasks that mirror industry practice. Alongside your college studies, you’ll complete a 45-day industry placement with an employer, giving you real experience in tool making and manufacturing. This combination of theory and practical experience prepares you for university or skilled employment.
5 GCSE passes at a minimum of Grade 4, which must include English Language and Maths at Grade 4.
Your learning will be assessed through two key components. First, the Core component, which includes an examination and an employer-set project (ESP). Together, these will determine your overall Core grade. Second, the Occupational Specialism component, where you'll complete synoptic assignments designed to demonstrate your skills and understanding, earning a distinction, merit, or pass. Additionally, you'll complete an industry placement to develop practical workplace skills.
Mechanical engineers work across diverse industries like aerospace, automotive, energy, and robotics, focusing on practical applications and innovative solutions to complex real-world problems.
Upon completing your T Level, you’ll be ready for roles such as Toolmaker, CAD Technician, 3D Printing Technician, Product Design Engineer, or Mechanical Engineering Technician for example within the manufacturing and engineering industries. It’s also an excellent pathway to further study, including degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or related technical fields. If you’re fascinated by precision engineering, problem-solving, and creating tools that power innovation, this course provides the perfect foundation for your future career.
