Overview of Course

Nothing says Christmas like putting a hand-made wreath on your door. With expert tuition from a teacher, you will be creating your own festive wreath using foliage and decoration and specialist tools. Participants must bring their own foliage for the session to use and to share.

Participants can also bring any decoration they would like to incorporate into their wreath as well as their own secateurs or gloves if possible. LAL will provide the tools, wreath base, some foliage and basic decoration.

This short course will give you the opportunity to learn skills and techniques to make your front door a festive entrance. We encourage people to also personalise their wreaths to their own tastes…You’ll be the envy of all your neighbours!

By the end of the course you will be able to:
· Identify seasonal greenery and foliage that can be used to create a wreath
· Plan and prepare materials forth creation of your wreath as instructed and guided by the teacher.
· Create a Christmas Wreath from scratch following instructions
· Evaluate your completed wreath

This course contains one accredited unit from Open Awards: Craft Skills.

This unit is blended into the core content of the course and learners will create evidence for the unit criteria by completing tasks and practical activities as planned by the course teacher.

Feedback during the session will outline learner progress, highlighting areas of success and development points.   

Completion of learning mat at the start and end of the course will enable learners to review their skills and knowledge against the qualification, highlighting specific areas to focus on or for further develop.

This course contains an accredited unit and it is important that you submit all work to your teacher as advised in order to successfully complete the course. Certification can be provided upon successful completion of the course.

Additional information

In order for the course to start on time, it’s important to be ready to join your course 5 – 10 minutes prior to the official start time.

Learners will need:
• A range of greenery/foliage – the teacher will bring some foliage to the session, but please bring your own which you may like to share with other learners
• Decorations for the wreath if you have them – this could be natural decorations, such as pine cones, or artificial decorations
• Secateurs and scissors if you have them
• Gloves if you have them

For all courses, it would be useful to have a pen and paper so you can make notes throughout the course.   

The college has an Additional Learning Support Team who can support students with a variety of learning needs. If you have a diagnosed additional learning need, or feel you may need additional support in order to successfully complete this course, please speak to your course teacher upon enrolment.

The online application and enrolment process is really simple, once you have clicked the “APPLY" or "ENROL” button you will be redirected to the portal where you either log in or create an account (if you haven’t done so previously). We will then ask you to give us a couple of bits of information like address, mobile phone number ect and that’s it.
Once your applications has been made the next step will be for you to book yourself onto one of our interview evenings, depending on availability you might be able to do this straight away but otherwise we will get in contact to arrange when you come in for an interview.
At any point you can log back into the portal throughout the year, update information like your predicted GCSE grades, update contact and consent information and keep a live track of your application.
