Please note that the College is only able to offer this course at the rates publicised on this website to those individuals aged 19+ or over on 31st August 2024 whose home address is in areas of England outside of the devolved authority areas of: Cambridge and Peterborough, Greater Manchester, Greater London, Liverpool City Region, Tees Valley, West Midlands and West of England. Where an individual resides outside of England or in one of the devolved areas then the College reserves the right to charge you for the delivery of the course at a rate of £11.25 per hour. Overview of Course

During this time of year, people can be more affected by the darker days and colder weather and find this impacts your mood and how you’re feeling. This 2-week course aims to give you techniques that you can implement and practice further at home, which will help improve your mood and lift your spirits. We will discuss the different causes for low mood as well as trial some practical techniques to help combat this.

This short course focuses on the self-care aspect of wellbeing, alongside elements of the 5 Ways to Wellbeing: Give, Connect, Take Notice & Keep Learning.

There will be some practical activities, including some short movements. Please tell your tutor if you are unable to partake in these. There will also be learning activities to complete over the two weeks.

By the end of the two weeks, you will be able to:

· Identify what causes the winter blues and how this impacts our wellbeing

· Participate in wellbeing activities to combat the winter blues

· Establish techniques to implement into your daily routine, to lift your spirits and improve your wellbeing

· Choose appropriate progression opportunities

Entry Requirements

In order to attend the course, learners should be able to follow verbal and written instructions in English at Entry Level 3 and above.

This course can be attended in a range of community venues or online via Microsoft teams or Zoom. If accessing online, learners will need a basic level of IT skills to be able to access the course and follow online instructions. If training or support is needed, please enquire about our free ICT courses: www.lal.ac.uk

Direct enrolment links to specific courses will be provided. Courses require a minimum of 5 learners and a maximum of 12 in order to be viable.

How Your Course Will Be Assessed

The course will be delivered at either a community venue, or online - please check details when enrolling. Online courses will be delivered on either Zoom or MS Teams and learners will need access to a computer, laptop or tablet device with access to the internet.   All devices should have a camera, sound and a microphone so that learners are able to interact with their teacher and peers during the course.   

Learners will be sent the join details and links prior to the course. Both of these online platforms can be accessed via an app on a smart phone, tablet or iPad or alternatively via the relevant website: https://www.zoom.us  or https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/microsoft-teams/log-in Learning activities for the course include: · Active listening and reflective discussion   · Participation in individual and group/team tasks · Personal reflection and note taking · Links to recommended websites and apps will be given to aid independent learning.

The teacher will use a range of activities to review learner’s knowledge throughout the course and identify any gaps and additional information required

• Learners will receive feedback in order to further develop their knowledge

• Learners will assess their knowledge at the start of the course and again at the end against the learning outcomes. This allows you to identify how much you have learnt and where you might need to do further study or research.

• Learners will also be supported to set an individual target(s) for the course based on personal goals and aspirations.

• Discussion and sharing of your ideas and opinions is encouraged to support and develop one another’s learning journey

You will be asked to complete a record of your learning to consolidate your new knowledge. This will be done either by paper copy or online using MS Forms. There will also be some worksheets (face to face classes) and other written activities.

Additional information

In order for the course to start on time, it’s important to be ready to join your course at least 5 minutes prior to the official start time. For all courses, it would be useful to have a pen and paper so you can make notes throughout the course.   The college has an Additional Learning Support Team who can support students with a variety of learning needs. If you have a diagnosed additional learning need or feel you may need additional support tosuccessfully complete this course, please speak to your course teacher upon enrolment.

Cant Apply Reason
The online application and enrolment process is really simple, once you have clicked the “APPLY" or "ENROL” button you will be redirected to the portal where you either log in or create an account (if you haven’t done so previously). We will then ask you to give us a couple of bits of information like address, mobile phone number ect and that’s it.
Once your applications has been made the next step will be for you to book yourself onto one of our interview evenings, depending on availability you might be able to do this straight away but otherwise we will get in contact to arrange when you come in for an interview.
At any point you can log back into the portal throughout the year, update information like your predicted GCSE grades, update contact and consent information and keep a live track of your application.
