Did you know that 1 in 4 people in the UK are likely to experience mental health problems each year? Mental health is just as important as physical health, yet whilst we know how to take care of our own physical health, many people do not know how to support friends, relatives or even colleagues who are experiencing poor mental health.

This accredited course is for people who wish to raise their awareness of the signs and symptoms associated with emergency mental health incidents either in a workplace, community venue or general public areas.

By developing a greater understanding of a range of common mental health conditions, as well as how to initially respond to a person experiencing mental ill-health, you can help support and understand the actions to take in a mental health emergency.

This 2-day course (full days) is delivered in a classroom environment with an activity workbook to record knowledge and understanding used for end assessment for the accredited qualification.

• Understand different Mental Health conditions
• Understand the role and responsibilities of a mental health first aider

In order to attend the course, learners should be able to follow verbal and written instructions in English at Level 1 and above. Learners may also need a basic level of IT skills to carry out research activities as part of the course.

Ideally, all learners will need to enrol online prior to any course starting through the online enrolment portal.

Learners attend planned classroom sessions. The sessions will be delivered in an appropriate setting and learners will be supported to work through the course content. In addition to this, learners will be given information about Apps and websites to access additional resources.

During the session they will be learning in a variety of ways:

Meeting other learners and teacher.

Sharing what has been learnt on the course.

Question and answering techniques.

Engaging in group activities.

Actively listening, observing and discussing.

Completing online documentation.

Accessing Apps and websites for resources and further learning opportunities.

Peer teaching and uploading resources to Moodle.

You are expected to attend all sessions, participate in discussions, activities and group tasks, along with any independent research activities.

The teacher will use a range of activities to review learner’s knowledge throughout the course and identify any gaps and additional information required

Learners will receive feedback in order to further develop their knowledge

Learners will assess their knowledge at the start of the course and again at the end against the learning outcomes. This allows them to identify how much they have learnt and where they might need to do further study or research.

Learners will also be supported to set an individual target(s) for the course based on personal goals and aspirations.

Learners will be completing a workbook as part of the course and submitted at the conclusion of the course which will be the assessment for the qualification.

The online application and enrolment process is really simple, once you have clicked the “APPLY" or "ENROL” button you will be redirected to the portal where you either log in or create an account (if you haven’t done so previously). We will then ask you to give us a couple of bits of information like address, mobile phone number ect and that’s it.
Once your applications has been made the next step will be for you to book yourself onto one of our interview evenings, depending on availability you might be able to do this straight away but otherwise we will get in contact to arrange when you come in for an interview.
At any point you can log back into the portal throughout the year, update information like your predicted GCSE grades, update contact and consent information and keep a live track of your application.
