Get ready to get hands-on and learn the essential skills that will make you a sought-after bricklayer! We've designed this course to cover everything you need to know. You'll start with the principles of health, safety, and welfare, ensuring you can work confidently and safely in any construction environment. From there, we’ll dive into the core of the craft. You'll learn how to interpret technical information and drawings, so you can bring plans to life. You’ll master the art of setting out buildings, making sure every structure is perfectly aligned. A huge part of your learning will be practical, focusing on building solid walls, isolated piers, and attached piers. You will also get creative by learning how to construct decorative brickwork features that make buildings stand out. We’ll also cover essential communication skills and how to work effectively with others on site. By the end of the course, you'll have a fantastic portfolio of skills to show employers!
We know that you learn best when you’re actively involved, so we’ve made sure this course is packed with practical, hands-on sessions! You’ll spend most of your time in our specialist construction workshops, which are set up just like a real-world building site. Here, you'll get to use professional tools and equipment under the supportive guidance of our expert tutors. They’ll be with you at every stage, demonstrating techniques and providing one-to-one feedback to help you perfect your craft. Alongside the practical work, there will be some classroom-based learning. These sessions are designed to be engaging and will give you the essential background knowledge you need, covering topics like health and safety regulations, building science, and how to read construction drawings. We blend practical skills training with theoretical knowledge to give you a complete understanding of the trade, making sure you feel confident and ready for the world of work.
4 GCSE passes at a minimum of Grade 3, or a Level 1 BTEC which must include a Grade 3 in English Language and Maths
We want you to feel proud of what you've achieved, and our assessment process is designed to help you do just that! Your progress will be tracked in a way that truly reflects your skills. Most of your assessment will be practical and ongoing. This means that as you work on different projects in the workshop, your tutors will observe your work, offering feedback and assessing your abilities against industry standards. You’ll build a portfolio of your work throughout the year, which is a fantastic way to see how much you’ve improved and to showcase your skills to future employers. There will also be some short, multiple-choice online tests to check your understanding of the theoretical side of the course, such as health and safety principles and building regulations. It’s a supportive process where we focus on what you can do and help you reach your full potential. We're here to help you succeed!
