This course is all about getting your hands dirty and learning by doing! We’re going to help you build an amazing set of skills from the ground up, giving you the confidence to excel. In our brilliant, modern workshops, you'll get to grips with all the essential tools of the trade. We’ll show you how to safely and masterfully use hand tools like saws, chisels, and planes, as well as power tools for cutting, shaping, and finishing timber.
You’ll dive into the core techniques of carpentry and joinery, learning how to create fundamental joints that are the backbone of all timber construction. We'll guide you through reading and understanding technical drawings and plans, so you can turn a design on paper into a real-life creation! You'll also learn about the different types of wood and materials, and how to select the right one for the job. Plus, we’ll cover crucial health and safety practices, ensuring you know how to work confidently and responsibly in a workshop environment. We are so excited to see what you'll create with us

While the course is very practical, we also make sure you understand the important theory behind the craft. You’ll have some time in the classroom where we’ll cover essential topics like health and safety, understanding technical drawings, and learning about different materials. 2 GCSE passes at a minimum of Grade 3, which must include a Grade 2 and 3 in English Language and Maths, in either combination.

We're here to cheer you on, so we've designed our assessment process to be supportive and build your confidence every step of the way. You won't find yourself sitting through lots of stressful exams. Instead, your learning will be assessed through a series of practical tasks and exciting projects that let you get hands-on and showcase your amazing new abilities right here in our workshops.
Throughout the course, our expert tutors will be right there with you, observing your progress and giving you encouraging feedback. They'll help you perfect your techniques and celebrate your achievements as you complete different units. There will be some short written tasks and verbal questions to check your understanding of key topics like health and safety and a final practical project where you can really shine.
