The Level 1 Construction and the Built Environment course is delivered through a combination of classroom teaching, practical workshops, and project-based tasks. In college, you’ll learn the theory of construction, including health and safety, construction technology, and interpreting technical information. You’ll then put this knowledge into practice in workshop sessions, where you’ll develop hands-on skills such as laying concrete, paving, or cutting materials. The balance of theory and practice prepares you for progression to higher levels or entry-level roles in the sector.
2 GCSE passes at a minimum of Grade 3, which must include a Grade 2 and 3 in English Language and Maths, in either combination.
Assessment for this course combines practical assessments, coursework, and written tasks. Practical skills, such as laying paving or cutting materials, are assessed through observed tasks in workshops. Theoretical knowledge, including health and safety and construction technology, is tested through assignments, written exercises, and short tests. You’ll also complete projects that combine both practical and theoretical learning.
