Interested in a T Level but want a bit more time to prepare? The Level 2 Construction and the Built Environment course is your ideal stepping stone. This one-year programme is designed with employers to give you the technical knowledge, workplace skills, and confidence you need to succeed. You’ll explore construction technology, health and safety, and problem-solving through real-world projects, while building your communication, teamwork, and resilience. With work experience, enrichment activities, and tailored support, this course gives you everything you need to progress to a T Level and beyond.
Thinking about a career in construction but feel you need more time before starting a T Level? The Level 2 Construction and the Built Environment course is designed to give you the knowledge, skills, and confidence to take that next step.

You’ll study industry-relevant content created with employers, building technical knowledge in areas such as construction technology, sustainability, and health and safety. You’ll also complete a project in your chosen area, applying your learning to solve real-world construction problems. Alongside this, you’ll develop vital workplace behaviours such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving — the skills employers value most.

The course doesn’t just prepare you for study — it prepares you for life. You’ll take part in work experience, enrichment activities such as volunteering or social action projects, and receive tailored support to set goals and boost your confidence. You’ll also continue to develop your English, maths, and digital skills, with support to work towards achieving a grade 4 in English or maths if you haven’t already.

By the end of the course, you’ll be ready to progress to a T Level in Construction and the Built Environment, or move towards apprenticeships and higher-level study. This programme is the perfect foundation for a future in one of the UK’s most vital and fast-growing industries.
The course is delivered through a mix of classroom lessons, project-based tasks, and practical activities. You’ll study technical content such as construction technology, sustainability, and health and safety, alongside English, maths, and digital skills. You’ll complete a project in your chosen area to apply your knowledge to real-world industry problems. Learning is enriched through work experience, volunteering, and employer engagement, helping you develop the professional behaviours, resilience, and teamwork skills you’ll need to succeed at T Level and beyond.
2 GCSE passes at a minimum of Grade 3, which must include a Grade 2 and 3 in English Language and Maths, in either combination.
Assessment is designed to prepare you for the demands of T Levels. You’ll be assessed through a combination of practical tasks, written assignments, and projects that test both your technical knowledge and your workplace skills. For example, you might complete a construction project that requires problem-solving and teamwork, or a written task covering health and safety. You’ll also have opportunities to practise different types of assessments you’ll encounter at T Level, building your confidence and study habits while receiving regular feedback to support your progress.
Studying Level 2 Construction and the Built Environment is the perfect preparation for your next step. This course is not just about building technical knowledge—it is about developing the confidence, resilience, and behaviours that employers and T Levels demand. On completion, you may consider supported entry-level opportunities in the construction industry, but most learners use this programme to progress to the T Level in Design, Surveying and Planning for Construction.

From there, you can move on to university, with degrees in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or Construction Management, leading to prestigious careers such as Architect, Surveyor, Engineer, or Project Manager.
