This course gives you the chance to explore what it really means to work in Law, Justice, and Protective Services. You’ll study topics such as crime and its effects, aspects of law, citizenship, public service skills, teamwork, and health and fitness for entry. Alongside classroom learning, you’ll get stuck into practical activities such as adventurous training, expedition planning, and team-building challenges, building your resilience and confidence.

You’ll also meet guest speakers from the police, military, and other uniformed services, and may visit locations such as police stations or outdoor training centres.

This isn’t just about theory—you’ll develop vital skills in leadership, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving, preparing you for the next step. Whether that’s progressing to a Level 3 course or starting your journey towards employment in uniformed services, you’ll be ready.

The Level 2 Law, Justice and Protective Services is delivered through classroom lessons, practical activities, and real-world projects.
Learning is hands-on, with opportunities to take part in fitness training, teamwork challenges, and simulated incidents. Guest Speakers and work experience provide a practical insight into the industry and related Careers. This balance of theory and practice prepares you for your next steps at Level 3, University or and public service careers.
4 GCSE passes at a minimum of Grade 3, or a Level 1 BTEC which must include a Grade 3 in English Language and Maths.
Assessment for the Level 2 Law, Justice and Protective Services is varied and largely coursework-based. You’ll complete written assignments, projects, case studies and practical assessments. Practical assessments include fitness tests, team activities, expeditions, and simulated incidents. Presentations and role play are also used to evaluate communication and problem-solving. Assessments focus on developing sector skills—leadership, teamwork, resilience, and professionalism—while testing knowledge of public service values.
Studying the Level 2 Law, Justice and Protective Services course prepares you for a future serving communities, upholding the law, and protecting society. This course is not just about learning policies—it develops the discipline, teamwork, and leadership skills needed in professional public service roles. On completion, you will be ready to take your next steps on to a Level 3 course and then into sectors such as policing, fire and rescue, law, armed forces, or emergency planning, where skilled and committed people are essential.

The qualification leads on to a Level 3 pathway which, upon completion- is also an excellent springboard to university, leading to degrees in Criminology, Law, Policing, Public Services, or International Relations. These can open the door to careers such as Police Officer, Firefighter, Border Force Officer, Paralegal, or Probation Officer. Some students also progress into specialist fields such as Criminal Justice, Counter-Terrorism, or Emergency and Disaster Management, gaining roles that combine expertise with public responsibility.
