You'll learn how to properly prepare different surfaces for painting and decorating, which is a super important first step for any job. We’ll guide you through the process of applying paint systems by brush and roller, helping you achieve a flawless, professional finish every single time. But that’s not all! You will also get to master the art of applying foundation and plain wallpapers, a skill that is always in demand. You'll spend most of your time in our fantastic, purpose-built workshops, which are set up just like a real work environment. Here, you’ll get to practice all the techniques you’re learning with professional tools and equipment. Our expert tutors will be right there with you, giving you live demonstrations and one-to-one support to help you perfect your skills. We keep our class sizes small, so you’ll get plenty of individual attention and guidance. Alongside the practical sessions, there will be some classroom-based learning to cover the theory behind the trade. This helps you understand why certain techniques are used and gives you the knowledge to solve problems on the job. We make these sessions engaging and interactive, connecting everything you learn back to the practical work you're doing in the workshop. 4 GCSE passes at a minimum of Grade 3, or a Level 1 BTEC which must include a Grade 3 in English Language and Maths.

The majority of your assessment will be practical, taking place right here in our workshops. You’ll complete a series of tasks that allow you to demonstrate your abilities in painting, wallpapering, and applying decorative finishes. Our supportive tutors will observe your work, offering constructive feedback to help you improve and build your confidence. It’s all about helping you become the best you can be! In addition to the practical assessments, there will be some written assignments and knowledge-based tests to check your understanding of the important theories and safety principles we cover in class. We'll also build a portfolio of your work throughout the year, which is a fantastic way for you to see how much you’ve accomplished. This portfolio will be a brilliant showcase of your talents that you can show to future employers!
