Ready to move onto academic study? The Entry 3 ESOL – Academic Route helps you build your English in speaking, listening, reading, and writing, while also strengthening your grammar and punctuation. You’ll take part in classroom activities and projects, with the support of a personal tutor to guide you every step of the way. No qualifications are needed—just complete an assessment to find your level. Successful completion of this course allows you to progress to higher-level academic study at college and beyond.

On this course, you’ll work on all four key language skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. You’ll build your vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation so you can express yourself more clearly and confidently in English. This isn’t just about everyday communication—it’s about preparing you for the kind of academic English you’ll need for your studies too.

Learning is active and engaging. You’ll take part in classroom activities, work on projects, and develop your confidence step by step. You’ll also have the support of a personal tutor, who will help you set targets and guide you to achieve your full potential.

You don’t need any qualifications to join. Your starting point will be decided by a short assessment, so you’ll be placed at the right level for you. From here, you’ll be able to progress onto higher-level academic courses at college, and this pathway is designed specifically to get you ready for that next step.

The Entry Level 3 ESOL – Academic Route is delivered through classroom lessons, interactive workshops, and practical communication activities. In college, you’ll focus on improving speaking, listening, reading, and writing, with an emphasis on academic English skills such as essay writing, note-taking, and presentation practice. Lessons use group work, discussions, and real-life scenarios to build confidence and fluency. The route also prepares you for vocational or academic, supporting progression to Level 1 ESOL or training.
2x GCSE's at grade 3 including English Language and maths at grade 2.
Assessment for Entry Level 3 ESOL – Academic Route is continuous and designed to measure your progress in practical and academic skills. You’ll complete reading and writing assignments, speaking and listening activities, and structured tasks such as presentations or short essays. Tutors provide regular feedback, observing your progress and guiding improvements. Small assessments throughout the course help build confidence, while formal assessments may be used to recognise achievement. This supportive approach ensures you are prepared for progression to Level 1 ESOL, further study, or vocational courses.
Studying ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) gives you the language skills and confidence to unlock new opportunities in education, work, and everyday life.
