Do you want a career where you can make a real difference every single day? The Level 2 Health and Social Care course gives you the knowledge, skills, and experience to begin your journey in this rewarding sector.

You’ll explore the core principles of care—respect, dignity, confidentiality, and person-centred support—while also learning how to communicate effectively with children, adults, families, and other professionals. Safeguarding and protection are central to the course, giving you the confidence to recognise risks and keep vulnerable people safe. You’ll also build your understanding of health, safety and wellbeing, as well as equality, diversity and inclusion, preparing you to work in a range of care settings.

Other exciting topics include infection prevention and control, human growth and development across the lifespan, and supporting individuals with specific needs, from learning disabilities to mental health conditions. You’ll also focus on your personal development, building the professional values and reflective skills that make a great carer.

Learning isn’t just in the classroom—you’ll take part in work placements in real health and social care settings, applying what you’ve learned and building hands-on experience that employers value. Case studies, presentations, and practical assessments help bring the subject to life.

By the end of the course, you’ll be ready for entry-level roles such as healthcare assistant or support worker, or you can progress to Level 3 qualifications, apprenticeships, or further specialist study.

If you’re caring, motivated, and ready to help others live better lives, this course is the perfect next step.
The Level 2 Health and Social Care course is delivered through classroom learning, practical activities, and a work placement. In college, you’ll explore topics such as human growth and development, safeguarding, and equality and diversity through lessons, group projects, and case studies. Alongside this, you’ll complete a placement in a real care setting, applying your knowledge to practice and building professional skills. This balance of theory and hands-on experience prepares you for further study or employment.
4 GCSE passes at a minimum of Grade 3, or a Level 1 BTEC which must include a Grade 3 in English Language and Maths.
Assessment for Level 2 Health and Social Care combines internal and external methods. Internal assessments may include structured tasks, practical observations, and assessor-led discussions, alongside compiling a portfolio of evidence to show your skills and knowledge. Externally, you may complete formal written exams testing core concepts such as service user needs, or externally set assignments that are internally marked. Across all elements, key skills assessed include applying person-centred care, demonstrating practical competence, reflecting on practice, and using literacy, numeracy, and digital skills effectively.
Studying Level 2 Health and Social Care helps you develop the knowledge and practical skills to support people across a wide range of settings. This course is not just about theory—it is about building communication, teamwork, and caring skills that are valued in health and community environments. On completion, you may consider roles such as Care Assistant, Support Worker, or Community Care Helper, where you can begin to gain experience of working directly with individuals.

For many learners, the next step is to progress to Level 3 Health and Social Care. This provides the opportunity to continue developing your knowledge and can lead on to university study in areas such as Nursing, Midwifery, Social Work, Psychology, or Occupational Therapy. These degrees open the door to respected professional careers such as Registered Nurse, Social Worker, or Occupational Therapist.

Health and social care is a sector where people make a difference every day. Whether you aim to explore work opportunities after college or continue your studies to progress into professional practice, Level 2 Health and Social Care provides the skills, experience, and confidence to move towards your future career.
