Over two years, you’ll study core construction knowledge including building technology, sustainability, design principles, and health and safety. You’ll explore how construction projects are planned and managed, and develop technical skills in surveying, design, and digital modelling. You will cover topics such as relationship management and customer service, how the Internet of Things (IoT) impacts construction, digital engineering techniques, mathematical techniques to solve construction problems,
construction design principles and processes to name but a few.

You’ll also learn about the importance of sustainability and how the industry is adapting to meet environmental challenges.

The course isn’t just classroom-based. A 45-day industry placement gives you the chance to work with a real employer, gain hands-on experience, and apply your learning to live projects. You’ll work with cutting-edge tools and software used in the sector, preparing you to enter the workforce with confidence.

The Design, Surveying and Planning for Construction T Level is delivered through classroom lessons, practical workshops, and a substantial industry placement. In college, you’ll study topics such as building technology, construction methods, sustainability, and design, using a mix of theory and digital tools. You’ll also develop hands-on skills in surveying and planning. A 45-day industry placement with an employer gives you real-world experience of working in the construction industry, helping you build the professional skills and confidence employers are looking for.
5 GCSE passes at a minimum of Grade 4, which must include English Language and Maths at Grade 4.
Assessment for the Design, Surveying and Planning for Construction T Level combines external exams, employer-set projects, and practical tasks. Core construction knowledge is tested through written exams covering design principles, sustainability, and health and safety. You’ll also complete an employer-set project, applying your skills to real-world construction scenarios such as planning a building project or producing technical drawings. Specialist modules are assessed through assignments and practical work. Together, these assessments ensure you are fully prepared for employment, apprenticeships, or progression to university-level study.
