The BA (Hons) Education (Early Years) (Top-Up) is designed for those who have completed a relevant Level 5 qualification and want to progress to an Honours degree focused on early years education. This programme builds on your existing knowledge and experience, deepening your understanding of how children develop and learn, and preparing you for more advanced roles within the early years sector.

You will study advanced themes such as child development, safeguarding, inclusive practice, curriculum design, and educational policy, with a clear focus on children aged 0–8. The course also encourages reflective practice, helping you to analyse your professional approach and adapt to meet the diverse needs of children and families.

Students are expected to be working or volunteering in a relevant early years setting, ensuring you can connect academic study to real-world practice. This balance of theory and applied learning prepares you for meaningful career progression or further study.

Course Fees - The cost of this full‑time course is £9,525.

This is a full time course, taught face to face.

Learning is interactive and applied, combining lectures, seminars, workshops, and group projects with independent study. You will engage with case studies, research activities, and collaborative tasks that encourage critical reflection and link directly to your professional or voluntary role.

Small group teaching provides personalised support from tutors with expertise in early years education. This applied approach ensures your learning is professionally relevant and gives you the confidence to apply new ideas in your practice.
Candidates are normally expected to have successfully completed a relevant qualification at Level 5, such as a Foundation Degree or HND. A professional qualification at an equivalent level will be considered and may be admitted at the discretion of the Programme Leader and University Link Tutor.
Candidates are normally expected to have achieved at least a grade 4 (or equivalent) in GCSE English.

Graduates of this programme are prepared for roles such as Early Years Practitioner, Nursery Manager, Children’s Centre Worker, Family Support Officer, or Education Support Officer.

The degree also provides a strong platform for further study, with many graduates progressing to teacher training routes such as PGCE, or postgraduate study in education and leadership. Longer term, you may move into senior roles such as Early Years Teacher, Education Officer, or Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo).
