Course Information
The Level 2 Award in in Awareness of End-of-Life Care course is designed to develop the skills needed for this highly sensitive role.

End of life care is one of the most challenging job roles there is and requires a high degree of sensitivity and respect.

Accredited by HABC, the course has been developed for learners either looking to work or currently working in health and social care roles but also interested in progressing into this area. It provides an opportunity to advance your knowledge and understanding and can be used as part of Continuous Professional Development.

Although a specialist role, it’s also acknowledged that quality end of life care should be provided by all carers when required. Therefore, this course can provide learners with a basic understanding of how to approach end of life situations sensitively, respectfully and with a focus on quality.
This course will provide learners with a basic understanding of how to approach end of life situations sensitively, respectfully, effectively and with a focus on quality. Learners will develop their knowledge and understanding of:

Different perspectives on death and dying

Understanding the aims, principles and policies of end-of-life care

Understanding factors regarding communication in end-of-life care

Knowing how to access the range of support services available to individuals and others

Understand how to work in end-of-life care
Learners attend weekly sessions and engage in learning activities to support the learning outcomes. Progressing each week, learning will be structured towards completing both individual and group activities to increase knowledge and understanding which will be assessed using a range of methods.  

Further support and learning may be accessed through MS Teams, which will support the length of the course with activities, resources and further reading links.  
Learners should be able to follow verbal and written instructions in English at Level 1 and above and benefit for a basic level of IT skills.
There are no specific prior skills/knowledge a learner must have for this qualification, however, learners may find it helpful if they have already achieved a level 1 introductory qualification in health and social care related subjects.
Regular submission of work that will be assessed and reviewed weekly.  

Learners will receive feedback to further develop their knowledge    

Learners will assess their knowledge at the start of the course and again at the end against the learning outcomes. This allows them to identify how much they have learnt and where they might need to do further study or research.   

Learners will also be supported to set an individual target(s) for the course based on starting points, personal goals and career aspirations.  
The course will be delivered for 3 hours a week over 6 weeks  

The Additional Learning Support Team work across college supporting students with a variety of learning needs in different ways.  Support can be requested at enrolment or at any point throughout your course. A workbook will be supplied at the start of the course which will be used by the learner to record their knowledge through activities and open questions, which will be submitted at regular points throughout the course
