The course contains both practical and theory elements with learners also being encouraged to reflect on the benefits from engaging in a range of yoga practices.
At the end of the course, learners will be able to:
1. Participate in a range of chair-based yoga practices
2. Describe at least three chair-based yoga practices / postures and how regular practice can benefit your physical and mental health and wellbeing
3. Reflect on your experiences of participating in yoga practices and create a personal exercise plan to take forward
4. Use the platform Microsoft Teams to interact with the course material and others
5. Choose appropriate progression onto further learning
Learners attend via the online platform Microsoft Teams on a set day and time. The sessions will be delivered live and learners will be supported to work through the course content. In addition to this, learners will be given access to Moodle (VLE – Virtual Learning Environment) so activities can be completed during and between sessions to record progress and achievement.
Learners should be able to follow verbal and written instructions in English at Entry Level 3 and above. Learners will also need a basic level of IT skills to be able to access the course and follow online instructions. If training or support is needed, please enquire about our free ICT courses.
Learners will need access to a computer, laptop or tablet device with access to the internet, a camera, sound and a microphone.
The teacher will use a range of activities to review learner’s knowledge throughout the course and identify any gaps and additional information required
• Learners will receive feedback in order to further develop their knowledge
• Learners will assess their knowledge at the start of the course and again at the end against the learning outcomes. This allows you to identify how much you have learnt and where you might need to do further study or research.
• Learners will also be supported to set an individual target(s) for the course based on personal goals and aspirations.
The course is 2 hours per session and is delivered over 2 weeks/sessions.
So the course can start on time, it’s important to be ready to join your online course 15 minutes prior to the official start time.
Please wear comfortable clothing and use a safe stable chair to practice on.
You will also be asked to complete a health screening questionnaire (PARQ) before you begin to be certain you are safe to participate. This will be emailed as a link to complete online before the session.
The Additional Learning Support Team work across college supporting students with a variety of learning needs in different ways. Support can be requested at enrolment or at any point throughout your course.
It would be useful to have a pen and paper so you can make notes throughout the course
Following completion of this course the following progression option(s) are available:

• Chair Based Yoga - Beginners (6 week course)
Learners will be submitting work via Moodle (Virtual Learning Platform) wherever possible. The completion of learning mats / handouts is another option for those learners who may have difficulty accessing Moodle. These resources can be emailed by the teacher prior to the course or session.
