Course Information
This programme is designed to increase learners’ knowledge and understanding of mental health and mental well-being. Successful completion of the required units will allow the learner to develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of mental health.
This year-long course allows you to gain an in-depth knowledge and understanding of mental health and mental wellbeing to support individuals with mental health problems.
Achievement of this qualification will help support progression into a variety of job roles and occupational areas within health and social care, or roles in other sectors which support people with mental health problems.
The course is 3 hours per week for 32 weeks.
To be awarded the Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health, learners are required to successfully complete 5 mandatory units:
• Unit 01 Understanding the context of mental health and wellbeing
• Unit 02 Promotion of mental health and wellbeing
• Unit 03 Mental health problems: associated issues and consequences
• Unit 04 Understanding mental ill health
• Unit 05 Working in mental health.

This course aims to increase your knowledge of mental health and mental wellbeing.
Completion of the qualification will help you to understand:
• Mental health legislation, services and public attitudes and how these have evolved
• How to support mental wellbeing through various stages of life
• Mental ill health, treatment options available and the potential consequences of mental ill health, the skills required to work in the mental health service.
Learners attend weekly sessions and engage in learning activities to support the learning outcomes. Progressing each week, learning will be structured towards completing both individual and group activities to increase knowledge and understanding which will be assessed using a range of methods appropriate at level 3.
Further support and learning can be accessed through the MS Teams page, which will support the length of the course with links to further research, resources and further reading links.
Learners should be able to follow instructions in English at Level 2 and above and will also benefit from appropriate IT skills to be able to carry our research and access MS Teams.
Learners may find it helpful if they’ve already achieved a Level 2 Mental Health related qualification, or qualifications in healthcare or social care contexts.
All learners will need to initially apply online and book an interview prior to acceptance on the programme.
• Regular submission of work that will be assessed and reviewed weekly.
• Learners will receive feedback in order to further develop their knowledge
• Learners will assess their knowledge at the start of the course and again at the end against the learning outcomes. This allows them to identify how much they have learnt and where they might need to do further study or research.
• Learners will also be supported to set an individual target(s) for the course based on starting points, personal goals and career aspirations.

You will be completing work in relation to each unit, which a range of activities and questioning to allow you to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding. You will be provided with the assessment brief as part of the programme, which will be outlined in your ‘topic and assessment plan’.
