Course Overview Description
This VTCT Skills Level 1 Award is designed to develop your practical skills through introducing you to the barbering industry. You will explore how to present a professional image in a barbers shop and will develop practical skills of shampooing and styling. This course will provide you with relevant underpinning knowledge and the potential for further study on the Level 2 Certificate in Barbering (subject to meeting entry criteria).
What Will I Learn
You will study three modules including: Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector; Presenting a Professional Image in a Salon; Style Hair using Barbering Techniques. You will also be shown the techniques of a shampoo and condition treatment
How Is The Course Delivered
The course will be delivered face to face, one evening per week in our specialist hair and barbering salon.
Entry Requirements
No formal prerequisite qualifications to studying this qualification however a good standard of spoken and written English is required.
How Learning Assessed
Learning will be assessed through assignment work and observations of practical skills.
Additional Information
Comfortable black clothing is required for this programme. Learners should wear a full black shoe or trainer for comfort and professionalism.
What Careers
This course would enable you to perform your own basic services and assist others in a barbershop. With further study on the next level of course, you would gain the skills required for employment in the barbering sector.

The online application and enrolment process is really simple, once you have clicked the “APPLY" or "ENROL” button you will be redirected to the portal where you either log in or create an account (if you haven’t done so previously). We will then ask you to give us a couple of bits of information like address, mobile phone number ect and that’s it.
Once your applications has been made the next step will be for you to book yourself onto one of our interview evenings, depending on availability you might be able to do this straight away but otherwise we will get in contact to arrange when you come in for an interview.
At any point you can log back into the portal throughout the year, update information like your predicted GCSE grades, update contact and consent information and keep a live track of your application.
