Course Information
This short session builds on the skills and knowledge gained during the Lancashire Lifesavers course. This progression course provides learners with the knowledge and basic lifesaving skills needed to effectively assess and treat someone who is not breathing. The skills will include how to conduct the primary survey and deliver cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on an adult, child and baby and how to access and use a defibrillator. This course can be accessed either as a live online course or alternatively in a classroom face to face.
By the end of the course, learners will be able to:
1. Demonstrate how to perform a primary survey
2. Demonstrate the correct technique to deliver effective cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
3. Compare the different techniques used in adult, child and baby CPR
4. Discuss how to access and use a defibrillator
5. Access apps, websites and/or the college virtual learning environment for further learning
6. Identify appropriate progression opportunities
Learners can access the course planned to attend either in person in a classroom environment or live online.
During the session they will be learning in a variety of ways:
• Learning from their peers/teacher
• Sharing what has been learnt on the course
• Question and answering techniques
• Engaging in practical activities
• Actively listening, observing and discussing
• Completing documentation
• Accessing Moodle, apps and websites for further learning opportunities
Learner should ideally be able to follow verbal and written instructions in English at Entry Level 3 and above. Some practical activity is included which will need a level of mobility and active participation.
Online learners will need access to a computer, laptop or tablet device with access to the internet, a camera, sound and a microphone.
• The teacher will use a range of activities to review learner’s knowledge throughout the course and identify any gaps and additional information required
• Learners will receive feedback in order to further develop their knowledge
• Learners will assess their knowledge at the start of the course and again at the end against the learning outcomes. This allows them to identify how much they have learnt and where they might need to do further study or research.
• Learners will also be supported to set an individual target(s) for the course based on personal goals and aspirations.
Learners will be completing a learning mat to evidence progression which will be completed during the session. This can be emailed by the teacher prior to the session for those accessing the online version of the course.
Classroom
If learners are physically able to, there is an opportunity to practise CPR during this session which may involve kneeling on the floor. Learners must let the teacher know if they are unable to participate in the practical activities.
Learners are asked to wear appropriate clothing when participating in the practical floor activities.

Please join the online course 15 mins before the planned start time.
A large cushion or firm pillow will be required for practising the adult CPR techniques.
If learners have a doll or teddy these can used instead of a mannequin when practising the correct techniques for children and babies. Alternatively, a pillow or cushion can be used. The teacher will guide and assess learners during these activities.
The Additional Learning Support Team work across college supporting students with a variety of learning needs in different ways.  Support can be requested at enrolment or at any point throughout your course.
