Course Information
This course is designed with beginners in mind and has been designed to provide learners with a broad experience of print making techniques and processes. Learners will engage in a range of guided explorations, using the work of artists as inspiration. Reflecting on and evaluating outcomes of prints produced, learners will develop their subject terminology and analytical skills.
During the course, learners will:

Build their knowledge of basic print making techniques, materials and processes

Demonstrate how to use tools and materials safely and effectively

Develop an awareness of the work of other relevant artists

Build confidence in discussing artwork and developing critical opinion

Recognise how engaging in art or craft-based activities can improve mental health & wellbeing

Supportively appraise own and others work

Identify progression opportunities
Learners will receive individual feedback from their teacher and peers on individual outcomes for each topic within the course.

Learners will also develop their own analytical skills, enabling them to critique their own work and establish ways of moving forward as they move towards independent learning.

Learners will track their personal progress in their course booklet.

Learners will be working on projects and will be encouraged to undertake personal research before and during the course to offer inspiration and context.

Learning mats used during the course will capture learning against the course outcomes.
It is important to note that this course is practical and requires a degree of manual dexterity for you to participate fully and get the most out of the session.

This programme is designed with beginners in mind and no prior experience is necessary, although some learners may have some previous informal learning experience within the overall curriculum area.

* Please note, due to the materials required, this course is not available online but can be offered in a range of community venues across Lancashire.
Teacher-led demonstrations showing and prompting learners in their explorations of different techniques and materials

Sharing and discussing outcomes, personal progress and reflections with teacher and peers

Course handouts such as worksheets and prompt lists to encourage learners’ analytical skills, encourage reflective practice and consolidate learning

Individual feedback, advice and inspiration from the teacher
The course is 2.5 hours per week over 5 weeks.

* Please note, the session time (2.5 hours) will be divided up into sections which includes; set-up and organisation of art/craft materials at the start, core teaching and practical activities, and clean-up/pack away at the end.
What equipment will I need?

The teacher will have the basic materials for each session although learners are welcome, and encouraged to bring their own where possible.

Learners will be working with Inks that require drying time and so will need to consider how they will transport their artwork home.

Learners may wish to bring an apron or an old item of clothing to protect their clothes from printing inks and some people like to bring and use latex gloves to protect their hands.

Learners may also find a pack of cleaning wipes handy.

For all courses, it would be useful to have a pen and paper so you can make notes throughout the course.
