Course Information
This short course will introduce learners to simple drawing techniques and activities that will aid relaxation and being present (in the moment.) Learners will explore line, pattern, and tone to create visually pleasing designs whilst benefitting from the relaxing creative process. Learners will also reflect on the positive benefits engaging in creative activities can have on your mental health and wellbeing.
By the end of the course learners will be able to:

- Explore mark making techniques using pen to create their own sample sheet
- Create a zentangle tile composition using strings and patterns, inspired by their mark making sample sheet
- Experiment with tone by adding pencil shading to their design
- Reflect on the benefits creativity can have on their mental health and wellbeing
This course is delivered through in class demonstrations showing different techniques and materials, engaging in paired activities and completing worksheets to encourage analytical skills, encourage reflective practice and consolidate learning.

Learners will share work and reflections during group critiques, so that they can learn from each other, and they will be asked to discuss their individual interests, aspirations and experience within the subject and take part in a range of simple exercises and discussions in order to negotiate individual learning goals.

Learners will receive handouts and learning materials such as worksheets, samples, and examples of relevant artwork
This programme is designed with beginners in mind and no prior experience is necessary although some learners may have some informal experience within the curriculum area. In order to attend the course, learners should be able to follow verbal and written instructions in English at Entry Level 3 and above, as well being able to participate in discussions and understand basic maths to enable full participation in the course.

It is important to note that this course is practical and requires a degree of manual dexterity for you to participate fully and get the most out of each session.
You will be asked to complete a record of your learning to consolidate your new knowledge. This will be done either by paper copy or online using MS Forms. 

We also encourage personal research before and during the course to offer inspiration and context. Optional extra practice and research will support your progress.
This Course is designed for venue-based community delivery.

What equipment will I need?

The course teacher will come equipped with materials for the session, however if you have your own basic drawing materials that you would like to bring with you, please do but this is not essential for taster sessions.

You will need to transport you work from the venue – An A3, waterproof display folder may be useful. Consider that sometimes your work may still be wet!

For all courses, it would be useful to have a pen and paper so you can make notes throughout the course.   
This course is designed to enable progressing learners to develop transferrable skills within the creative wellbeing curriculum. Learners may wish to try out another of our short creative wellbeing courses upon completion of this course.
