Course Information
If a creative taster session at your local library has got you inspired, then you can progress onto this course to try out more arts based activities on this next step course. This course provides a chance to get creative and try out a range of arts techniques, working with a range of mediums and activities including; paper, collage, sewing, and mark making. Take time out to relax and try new things using minimal materials, that you can easily continue with at home.
Taking part in creative activities is known to relieve stress, increase focus and creativity to provide an increased sense of personal wellbeing. Alongside creativity, this course incorporates the self-care aspect of wellbeing alongside elements of the 5 Ways to Wellbeing: Give, Connect, Take Notice & Keep Learning. By the end of the course learners will be able to:

1. Outline what the term wellbeing means and list the 5 ways to wellbeing
2. Contribute to discussions around wellbeing and the connections to creativity
3. Work with a range of colour, marks and pattern using mixed media themed activities
4. Take part in simple sewing techniques
5. Select an effective colour palette and make design choices to create a finished project
6. Explore the work of other artists to inspire and influence their design choices
7. Develop an individual project using a range of arts and crafts processes
8. Share their thoughts and experiences of taking part in these creative activities
• Teacher-led demonstrations showing and prompting learners in their explorations of different techniques and materials
• Participation in practical activities
• Sharing and discussing outcomes, personal progress and reflections with teacher and peers
• Course handouts such as worksheets and prompt lists to encourage learners’ analytical skills, encourage reflective practice and consolidate learning • Individual feedback, advice and inspiration from the teacher
In order to attend the course, learners should be able to follow verbal and written instructions in English at Entry Level 3 and above.  
Please note, due to the practical nature of this course, it’s not available online but can be offered in libraries across Lancashire.
• The teacher will use a range of activities to review learner’s knowledge throughout the course and identify any gaps and additional information required
• Learners will receive feedback in order to further develop their knowledge
• Learners will assess their knowledge at the start of the course and again at the end against the learning outcomes. This allows you to identify how much you have learnt and where you might need to do further study or research.
• Learners will also be supported to set an individual target(s) for the course based on personal goals and aspirations.
• Discussion and sharing of your ideas and opinions is encouraged to support and develop one another’s learning journey.
Learners will be working on projects and will be encouraged to undertake personal research before and during the course to offer inspiration and context. Learning mats used during the course will capture learning against the course outcomes.
The course is 2.5 hours per session over 4 weeks.
What equipment will I need?
The teacher will have the basic materials for each session although learners are welcome, and encouraged to bring their own where possible. Learners may wish to bring an apron or an old item of clothing to protect their clothes and some people like to bring and use latex gloves to protect their hands. Learners may also find a pack of cleaning wipes handy.
It’s important to be at the venue 5-10 minutes before the start time. For all courses, it would be useful to have a pen and paper so you can make notes throughout the course. 
The college has an Additional Learning Support Team who can support students with a variety of learning needs. If you have a diagnosed additional learning need or feel you may need additional support to successfully complete this course, please speak to your course teacher upon enrolment.  
There is no direct progression from this course, however there are a range of creative wellbeing courses learners can access alongside other provision at Lancashire Adult learning. The course teacher will talk to learners about options and plan accordingly. Lancashire Adult Learning offers a wide range of art, craft and creative wellbeing courses.
