Course Information
This course is designed for those who wish to understand yoga, and who prefer to choose a seated version of the regular standard yoga practice. During the course you will get to experience the poses and gain an understanding of yoga and its benefits.
At the end of the course, learners will be able to:

Describe the basic principles of yoga and identify the 8 limbs of yoga.

Define the benefits of chair yoga practice

Participate and demonstrate good technique in the practical yoga sessions

Demonstrate and describe how to modify their own practice to suit them as an individual

Reflect, record in a journal and discuss their own progress

Make an informed choice of progression routes and complete end of course feedback and assessment
The teacher will use a range of activities to review learner’s knowledge throughout the course and identify any gaps and additional information required

Learners will receive feedback in order to further develop their knowledge

Learners will assess their knowledge at the start of the course and again at the end against the learning outcomes. This allows you to identify how much you have learnt and where you might need to do further study or research.

Learners will also be supported to set an individual target(s) for the course based on personal goals and aspirations.

Learners will be completeing a workbook and there may be digital resources available for sharing learner discussions and ideas.
This course is suitable for most ages and abilities; including beginners to intermediate.



It is important that all learners complete a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire in advance of the course wherever possible, so the teachers are aware of any pre-existing health conditions and appropriate course adaptions can be recommended where necessary.



Following completion of this questionnaire and in order to carry out exercise safely, individuals with certain pre-existing health conditions may be required to seek medical advice before completing the course. The teacher will advise individuals on this where necessary.



In order to attend the course, learners should be able to follow verbal and written instructions in English at Entry Level 3 and above.  The course will be delivered in a classroom setting learners will need to wear comfortable clothing to move in and may be invited to access links via a smartphone (not complulsory).



All learners will need to complete an enrolment form at the start of the session.

If the course is delivered online Learners will also need a basic level of IT skills to be able to access the course and follow online instructions. If training or support is needed, please enquire about our free ICT courses.

All Learners will need access to a computer, laptop or tablet device with access to the internet.  All devices should have a camera, sound and a microphone so they are able to interact with their teacher and peers during the course. 

The course will be delivered online using  Microsoft Teams and learners will be sent the join details and links prior to the course. Both of these online platforms can be accessed via an app on a smart phone, tablet or iPad or alternatively via the relevant website: https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/microsoft-365/microsoft-teams/group-chat-software

All learners will need to enrol online prior to any course starting through the colleges online enrolment portal: https://enrol.lal.ac.uk/

Direct enrolment links to specific courses will be provided.

All courses require a minimum of 5 learners and a maximum of 10 (amend as necessary) in order to be viable.
The sessions will be delivered live in a classroom venue or online platform and learners will be supported to work through the course content. There will be practical participation, group discussion and written activities during the sessions.
So the course can start on time, it’s important to be ready at the venue 15 minutes prior to the official start time. Please wear comfortable clothing and use a safe stable chair to practice on. You will also be asked to complete a health screening questionnaire (PARQ) before you begin to be certain you are safe to participate. This will be given to you during the session or can be emailed as a link to complete online.
