Course Information
What we think and how we see the world has a huge impact on our wellbeing and life direction. Negativity is all around us and it’s difficult sometimes to focus on the positive- in fact, our brains are geared to spot the negatives!
But you can learn to think differently and learn to ‘rewire your brain!
The intention of this course is to enable you to spot, challenge and change the negative thoughts and attitudes that hold you back. As a result, you will become more resilient, hopeful, energised and able to build a more positive life, benefitting both yourself and those around you.
The course is two and a half hours per session and is delivered over two individual sessions or weeks. This can be adapted to the group as required.
On this course you will:
• Learn about the damaging effects of negativity and the benefits of a positive mindset
• Practice strategies to increase positivity and reflect on their impact.
• Create a SMART goal to include one new strategy in your life over the next week.
• Plan your learning progression after course completion.
The course will be delivered either at one of our community venues, or online. Please check details when enrolling.
The community venue will be in a nearby location, where you can meet people face to face and learn together in a suitably equipped classroom setting.
Online courses will be delivered on either zoom or MS Teams from your own home and learners will need access to a computer, laptop or tablet device with access to the internet.
All devices should have a camera, sound and a microphone so that learners are able to interact with their teacher and peers during the course.
Learners will be sent the join details and links prior to the course. Both of these online platforms can be accessed via an app on a smart phone, tablet or iPad or alternatively via the relevant website: https://www.zoom.us or https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/microsoft-teams/log-in
Activities for the sessions include:

• Active listening and reflective discussion
• Participation in individual and group/team tasks
• Personal reflection and note taking
Links to recommended websites and apps will be given to aid independent learning
In order to attend the course, learners should be able to follow verbal and written instructions in English at Entry Level 3 and above.
• The teacher will use a range of activities to review learner’s knowledge throughout the course and identify any gaps and additional information required
• Learners will receive feedback in order to further develop their knowledge
• Learners will assess their knowledge at the start of the course and again at the end against the learning outcomes. This allows you to identify how much you have learnt and where you might need to do further study or research.
• Learners will also be supported to set an individual target(s) for the course based on personal goals and aspirations.
You will be asked to complete a record of your learning to consolidate your new knowledge. This will be done either by hard copy or online (MS Forms). There will also be some worksheets (face to face) and other written exercises. Please ensure that you have a pen and paper/notebook with you.
Please note, all the teachers are knowledgeable about health and wellbeing but are not GPs or medically trained. If you have a specific health condition, please speak to your GP in the first instance.
Following completion of this course the following progression option(s) are available:

• Building a Resilient Life (six-week course)
