Course Information

Course Information
This course has been designed to show simple exercises that can be done at home to develop learner’s knowledge and understanding of the components of fitness, alongside the benefits to overall health and wellbeing. It is suitable for those who are new to exercise and wish to gain an insight into how physical activity can impact their lives positively. Participating in the course will also increase connection with others and enhance learner’s IT and digital skills.
At the end of the course, learners will be able to:
1. Describe the importance of exercise to their physical and mental wellbeing
2. Know and identify the 3 main components of fitness
3. Participate in a range of exercises and demonstrate safe techniques
4. Use the online platforms safely to complete the course content and connect others
5. Identify appropriate progression onto further learning opportunities
The course will be delivered online using Zoom or Microsoft Teams.

Learners will need access to a computer, laptop or tablet device with access to the internet.  All devices should have a camera, sound and a microphone so they are able to interact with their teacher and peers during the course.
It is important that all learners complete a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire in advance of the course wherever possible, so the teachers are aware of any pre-existing health conditions and appropriate course adaptions can be recommended where necessary. Following completion of this questionnaire and in order to carry out exercise safely, individuals with certain pre-existing health conditions may be required to seek medical advice before completing the course. The teacher will advise individuals on this where necessary.

Learners should be able to follow verbal and written instructions in English at Entry Level 3 and above. Learners will also need a basic level of IT skills to be able to access the course and follow online instructions. If training or support is needed, please enquire about our free ICT courses.
• The teacher will use a range of activities to review learner’s knowledge during the course and identify any gaps and additional information required
• Learners will receive feedback in order to further develop their knowledge
• The PowerPoint includes an opportunity for you to assess your knowledge at the start of the course and again at the end against the learning outcomes. This allows you to identify how much you have learnt and where you might need to do further study or research.
• You will also be supported to set an individual target for the course based on your personal goals and aspirations.
Course Work
Learners will complete a learning mat and handouts during the session. There may be digital resources such as MS forms, Padlet and online quizzes
Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear to enable you to participate in the practical activities. Make sure there is adequate space around you to exercise and an exercise mat or equivalent (such as a towel). Have some water nearby to ensure you stay hydrated.

Learners may want to make notes on paper or a notepad, but the PowerPoint will be available after the course.

So the course can start on time, it’s important to be ready to join your online course 15 minutes prior to the official start time.

After completing the Introduction to Home Exercise course, you will be informed about progression opportunities with LAL including:
• Home Exercise for Beginners (6-week course)
• Chair Based Exercise & Falls Prevention – Beginners (6-week course)
