Course Information
The Level 1 Games Design and Development course is ideal for those who wish to develop their knowledge and understanding of Game design and the development process. The programme is designed for those who desire to form a foundation due to little or no previous game design experience.

Learners will develop an understanding of Game design theory and the process of developing a game prototype. You will create visuals to show what the game will look like, as well as a design proposal that outlines aspects of the game.
There are 4 units to complete, which make up a portfolio of evidence. These units are:

Know about the purpose, types and platforms for computer games.

Be able to generate ideas and plan a game design.

Be able to develop and present a game prototype.

Review the computer design and prototype.
• The teacher will use a range of activities to review learner’s knowledge throughout the course and identify any gaps and additional information required
• Learners will receive feedback in order to further develop their knowledge
• Learners will assess their knowledge at the start of the course and again at the end against the learning outcomes. This allows you to identify how much you have learnt and where you might need to do further study or research.
• Learners will also be supported to set an individual target(s) for the course based on personal goals and aspirations.
Course Work
You will be assessed through completing a portfolio of evidence, observations within class and group work.
The course is sutiable for those who have little or no previous game design experience. You will need to be able to follow verbal and written instructions in English at Entry Level 3 and above.
Learners will be using MS forms/ Microsoft Teams/ digital resources wherever possible to complete learning activities and answer questions relating to the course. There are both written tasks and verbal tasks involving individual and group work.
The course is 10 weeks – 3hrs per week
