Express yourself through colour, texture, and form with A Level Fine Art!

Experimentation is key – you’ll be encouraged to develop your own personal style while studying the techniques of great artists.

Fine Art is perfect for creative minds looking to pursue careers in art, design, illustration, architecture, or even just for the love of creativity.
Prepare to unleash your full creative potential and see just where your skills and imagination can take you. Step into the world of creativity with A Level Fine Art, a course that encourages you to experiment, take risks, and discover your unique artistic style. You’ll explore a wide range of processes, from painting, drawing, and printmaking to mixed media, photography, textiles, and sculpture. Alongside traditional skills, you’ll be introduced to contemporary approaches, experimenting with scale, surface, colour, and materials to bring your ideas to life in exciting and unexpected ways.

The course balances structured projects with opportunities for you to develop your own independent work. You might investigate themes such as identity, the environment, or storytelling, responding with personal, thought-provoking pieces. Through sketchbooks, visual research, and practical exploration, you’ll move from initial inspiration to final outcomes, building a diverse and professional portfolio that reflects your creativity and individuality.

A key part of your journey will be learning from the work of other artists and designers, past and present. You’ll explore how creative practitioners respond to social, cultural, and historical contexts, using this research to inform and enrich your own ideas. You’ll also develop critical analysis skills, enabling you to confidently evaluate your own work as well as that of others.

Perfect for passionate creatives, this course nurtures independence, innovation, and problem-solving, while preparing you for progression to art school, university, or a career in the creative industries. With A Level Fine Art Art, you won’t just make artwork—you’ll explore concepts, develop new perspectives, and unlock your full creative potential.
Learn through hands on, studio based workshops exploring drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, and more. Guided experimentation and research help you develop creative skills across diverse media, from mixed media to moving image, in an inspiring, practical environment.
3 GCSE passes at a minimum of Grade 4 and 2 at Grade 5, which must include English Language and Maths at Grade 4.
A Level Fine Art is assessed through two components: a Personal Investigation and an Externally Set Assignment. The Personal Investigation includes a practical project and written work, allowing you to explore themes, techniques, and artists that inspire you. The Externally Set Assignment features a preparatory period and a 15 hour timed final piece based on an AQA set theme. Both components are marked on creativity, technical skill, contextual understanding, and personal expression.
A Level Fine Art develops your creativity, technical skills, and entrepreneurial mindset, preparing you for careers as a fine artist, illustrator, graphic designer, concept or set designer, art therapist, gallery curator, arts administrator, teacher, or conservator. Many pursue portfolio careers, blending freelance work, commissions, teaching, and roles in creative industries like advertising, marketing, publishing, and film. This course equips you with the skills to thrive in the dynamic world of art and design, offering endless opportunities to express your vision and shape your future.
