Shape your understanding of power, governance, and society with A Level Politics!

You’ll study political systems in the UK and beyond, debate key issues, and explore ideologies that shape the modern world.

Perfect for students aiming for careers in law, journalism, government, or international relations, or looking to make a move towards a degree in Political Science.

If you want to change the world - or understand how it's run - Politics is the perfect start.
Ever wondered who really makes the decisions, how laws get passed, or why politics dominates the news? If you’re curious about power, influence, and the big debates shaping our world, A Level Politics is for you. This course puts current affairs at the heart of your learning and gives you the skills to analyse, debate, and truly understand how politics works in the UK, the US, and beyond.

You’ll study UK Government and Politics which takes you inside the workings of our system—covering the constitution, Parliament, the prime minister, cabinet, and judiciary. You’ll also explore democracy, voting behaviour, political parties, and how the public’s voice is heard through elections and pressure groups.

While US Government and Politics lets you compare the UK with America. You’ll dive into the US constitution, Congress, the presidency, and Supreme Court, while also looking at civil rights, parties, elections, and the role of direct democracy in shaping society.

Political Ideas introduces you to the big theories behind politics. You’ll study Liberalism, Conservatism, and Socialism, plus another key ideology such as Feminism, Nationalism, Multiculturalism, Ecologism or even Anarchism—ideas that have shaped, and continue to shape, the modern world.

Through debates, discussions, and analysis, you’ll develop critical thinking, research, and communication skills that universities and employers value highly. Whether you see yourself in law, journalism, government, international relations—or simply want to make sense of today’s world— A Level Politics will give you the tools to do it.

Politics isn’t just about learning—it’s about questioning, challenging, and shaping the future.
A Level Politics is delivered through a mix of classroom lessons, debates, and independent research, encouraging you to engage with current affairs, analyse political systems in the UK and USA, and develop clear arguments through discussion and essay writing.
3 GCSE passes at a minimum of Grade 4 and 2 at Grade 5, which must include English Language and Maths at Grade 4.
A Level Politics is assessed through three written exams, each lasting 2 hours and taken at the end of the two-year course. All three papers carry equal weight, each worth 33.3% of the final grade. One paper focuses on UK Politics, covering democracy, participation, political parties, and electoral systems. Another examines the UK Government, exploring Parliament, the prime minister, the constitution, and relationships between institutions. The third paper is on Comparative Politics, analysing the US political system and comparing it to the UK. Assessments include short-answer questions and extended essays, testing your analysis, evaluation, and ability to construct clear arguments.
A Level Politics enhances your analytical thinking, communication, and understanding of political systems, opening doors to careers in government, public service, and beyond. You could become a civil servant, policy officer, parliamentary researcher, or political strategist. The course also suits roles in journalism, NGOs, advocacy, think tanks, market research, PR, marketing, charity work, diplomacy, law, finance, or academia.
