Why do people think, feel and act the way they do? If you’ve ever caught yourself wondering why some people follow the crowd, why we forget things, or how childhood shapes who we become, then A Level Psychology is for you. This subject is all about exploring the human mind and making sense of behaviours we see every day.

You’ll cover some really interesting topics. In Social Influence you’ll look at why people conform or obey authority. Memory helps you understand how we remember things—and why our brains sometimes let us down. Attachment explores how bonds formed as babies can affect our future relationships. Clinical Psychology focuses on mental health, tackling common issues like phobias, depression and OCD, as well as how they’re treated.

You’ll also discover different ways psychologists explain behaviour in Approaches in Psychology—from biological and cognitive ideas to learning theories. In Biopsychology, you’ll find out how the brain, nervous system and genetics influence who we are. And in Research Methods, you’ll get hands-on with experiments, data, and analysis, building real skills you’ll use throughout the course (and beyond).

On top of this, you’ll get to choose optional topics that suit your interests.

A Level Psychology is delivered through a mix of classroom lessons, group discussions, and independent research, combining theory with real-world case studies and practical investigations to help you understand human behaviour and develop analytical skills.
3 GCSE passes at a minimum of Grade 4 and 2 at Grade 5, which must include English Language and Maths at Grade 4.
A Level Psychology is assessed entirely through three written exams, each lasting 2 hours and worth 33.3% of the final grade, taken at the end of the two-year course. Each paper includes a mix of multiple-choice questions, short-answer responses, and extended essays. Papers focus on topics such as social influence, memory, attachment, biopsychology, research methods, issues and debates, and optional areas like relationships, schizophrenia, or forensic psychology. Assessments test your ability to apply theories, evaluate studies, and interpret research evidence, preparing you with strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
A Level Psychology develops analytical, research, and communication skills while exploring human behaviour and ethical issues. It’s a great foundation for careers in social services, counselling, clinical or educational psychology, teaching, HR, marketing, market research, and public policy. Psychology also supports pathways into healthcare, criminology, sports science, mental health, and environmental design. With its focus on scientific methods and critical thinking, this subject is highly valued across social sciences and beyond.

In some circumstances, this funding allows us to offer courses at a reduced cost to learners who meet certain eligibility criteria. Below are the standard course fees for Lancashire residents and, where applicable, the reduced fees available to eligible learners.

To qualify for reduced fees, you may be required to complete a fee assessment and provide evidence to support your eligibility.

Text Value

The standard fee for anyone living outside of the LCCA funded area (e.g. if your home address is in the Greater Manchester devolved funded area) is charged at £12.10 per hour, but may be higher for some courses.
